What this assumes

  • Two statutory extra payments are normally prorated into the twelve monthly salaries.
  • Salary and statutory contributions are in local currency; the platform fee is quoted in USD as providers price it that way.
  • Excludes one-off costs such as equipment, visa sponsorship and end-of-service payments.
  • Statutory rates verified 2026-07-28 against the sources cited on the country reference page.

How the maths works

Statutory contributions are applied to salary plus any mandatory extra payments, not to base salary alone. That ordering matters in Colombia and Mexico, where the extra payments are themselves contributory, and it is the most common reason a provider quote comes in above a back-of-envelope estimate.

The employer burden used for Spain is 30% and mandatory extra pay is modelled as 0 month(s) of salary per year. Both figures come from the sourced field table on the Spain country page.

The platform fee is quoted per employee per month in USD because that is how EOR providers price, while salary and contributions stay in local currency. Mixing the two in one total would hide an exchange-rate assumption you did not make.

Questions

How much does an Employer of Record cost?
Two components: the provider's platform fee, typically $400 to $650 per employee per month, and the statutory employer contributions in the hire country, which run from roughly 17% of salary in Singapore to about 30% in Spain, Mexico and Colombia.
Is an EOR cheaper than opening an entity?
Below roughly five employees in a country, an EOR is almost always cheaper once incorporation, local accounting, statutory filings and a local director are counted. Above that, the fixed cost of an entity starts to win.
Why is my provider quote higher than this estimate?
Common gaps are private health cover, equipment and expense handling, one-off onboarding fees, and end-of-service accruals such as Colombian cesantías that a provider may bill monthly rather than annually.
